Delays push pool works back again

Things are starting to come together at the Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool, however upgrade works are continuing and have pushed the opening of the facility back a few more weeks.
Cobar Shire Council’s special projects officer Angela Shepherd said a number of time consuming jobs on site have taken longer than expected.
“The interior of the 50m pool will be another two to three weeks.
“Each individual outlet needs to have lining welded around it, and then the rest of the lining welded together to make it waterproof.
“It’s a time consuming task but the specialists are on site and working away,” Ms Shepherd said.
“The small pool should have water in it in a week.
“It’s got a very high tech PVC mattress floor, so it’s taken a bit to lay that,” she said.
Residents should also start to see the pool’s filtration plant come together soon.
One of the most visible improvements will be the water toy area, which is still being finished.
“It’s been a slower than expected area.
“The curved hob is nearly tiled, but it’s a very fiddly job for the tilers because each individual tile has had to be cut and laid in a curved area,” Ms Shepherd said.
Other parts of the upgrade which still need work include the concourse (around the pools); and the new plant room for the multifunction pool (expected to take another two weeks).
Ramps have now been installed in the large pool.
“You should see a lot of progress in the next week to 10 days.
“The work is very specialised and time consuming, but will be worth it in the end!” Ms Shepherd said.
