Cobar Rugby’s new assistant coaches John Carswell and Netava Tagi with head coach Jarrod Marsden and Cobar Rugby Club new president Stuart Long.
The Cobar Rugby Club’s 50th year
celebrations may have ended months ago, however the club is hoping to build on
the momentum created this year and is working towards the Western Plains 2009 season.
Outgoing club president, Jarrod Marsden was appointed as the new head coach at the club’s annual general meeting on Saturday.
Marsden is well qualified to take on the head coach role having had a 14-year-long involvement with the club as a player and committee member.
He began his playing career with the Camels in 1995 and has been a member of premiership winning teams in First Grade and Second Grade.
He was a member of the Western Plains representative side on six occasions.
“Having Second Grade play the grand
final this season really raises the bar as far as everyone’s expectations of what these boys can do.
“I’ve been involved in getting the young players to this level and I want to be involved in the future success that I know this team will achieve,” Marsden said.
Marsden will be assisted by the Camels new recruit Netava Tagi.
Tagi has played in the forwards with Randwick this season and also helped out with the coaching of the Randwick Second Grade side.
He has played for 11 years in Australia and prior to that played in Fiji.
John Carswell also returns to the 2009 coaching line-up.
Also a former Camels player, Carswell has celebrated premiership success with the Camels in three grades since his first game with the club in 1991.
In 2005 he coached the First Grade side to the semi finals.
He also achieved much success in coaching the women’s Bactrians team who were unbeaten for three seasons.
Marsden and Tagi will both play next season while Carswell will only coach.
