Final matches played for the 2009 junior soccer season

Junior soccer presentations
Cobar Junior Soccer’s leading goal scorers Jayden Hughes (11 goals in the Senior competition) and Tony Place (14 goals in U/18s) with club president Scott Toomey at the junior soccer presentations on Saturday at the Golfie.

The final games for the Cobar Junior Soccer Club’s 2009 season were played on Saturday at Ward Oval with a lot of excited players and much vocal support from the spectators.

In the Mini division Wanderers were victorious over Rangers 1-0 in the grand final making them the overall winners of the Minis Division.

Wanderers’ player, Marshall Lovegrove, scored the only goal in this game.

In the play off for third and fourth places Spurs defeated United 5-1, with goals scored for Spurs by Ben Griifiths (4) and Will Griffiths (1).

Stevie Toomey scored the sole goal for United.

In the Mids division United won their grand final 4-0 over Spurs with goals scored by Andrew Rorke (1) and Attila Szekely (3).

The play off game of the Mids division resulted in 2- all draw between Wanderers and Rangers.

Braith Good scored the two goals for Wanderers and Tyra Hughes found the back of the net twice for Rangers.

In the Senior division Rangers and Spurs battled it out and went in to extra time for a final score of 1-all.

Gina Martin scored for Spurs and Jayden Hughes netted one for the Rangers.

The team managers decided that both teams deserved equal first place and the teams were declared joint winners of the Senior competition.

United finished as runners-up.

The Under 18s division again provided an interesting and eventful match between Spurs and United.

Exceptional skills were shown throughout the game by players in both teams, with Spurs the final winners over United 7-3.

Spurs’ goals were scored by Tony Place (3), Jade Buckman (2) and Baden Smith (1).

Shane Place, Jason Foster and Taylor Gilbert all scored one goal each for United.

The Cobar Junior Soccer Club’s end of season presentations were held at the Golfie on Saturday afternoon, with the function room filled to capacity with players and supporters.

Trophies were presented to the winners and runner-ups in each division and medallions to the third and fourth place getters.

Most Skilled, Sportsmanship, Improvement and Encouragement trophies were also presented to players from each team.

The recipients of the Most Skilled trophies were Sebastian Best, Ben Griffiths, Eli Hausia, Ethan Gilbert (Minis), Charlie Jenkins, Henry Brookman, Braith Good, Attila Szekely (Mids), Jayden Hughes, Ben Claxton, Taylor Gilbert (Seniors), Baden Smith and Jason Foster (U18s).

Sportsmanship trophies went Riley Porter, Hugh Wilson, Dylan Boland, Andrew Roberts (Minis), Michael Manns, Wyatt Proudlove, Jock Hudson, Benjamin Anderson (Mids), Casey Harrison, Lara Smith, Kaylah Cohen (Seniors), Zeb Tulloh and Henry Tanke (U18s).

Samuel Piper, Zac Ewing, Jack Fazulla, Stevie Toomey (Minis), Michaela Christie, Kacey Davis-Banks, John-Paul Best, Tamira Mitchell (Mids), Georgia Lee, Tylah Vloedmans, Bryan Mitchell (Seniors), Marshall Anderson and Jesci Clarke (U18s) received trophies for displaying the most improvement throughout the season.

Encouragement trophies were awarded to Anthony Carrello, Will Griffiths, Jed O’Neill, Myles Miller (Minis), Aiden Porter, Mason Moore, Tyrah Hausia, Andrew Rorke (Mids), Robbie Good, James Anderson (Seniors), Rhys Smith and Jesse Harrison (U18s).

The John Mitchell Pharmacy Leading Goal scorer trophies were won by Sebastian Best (Minis), Attila Szekely (Mids), Jayden Hughes (Seniors) and Tony Place (U18s).

Team managers Nicky Miller, Dennis Wilson, Russell Ewing, Al Sharpe (Minis), Chris Best, Jason Mitchell, Jeremy Jenkins, Brian Obray (Mids), Steve Smith, Peter Claxton and Roger Mitchell (Seniors) were also presented with small gift.

The Club Person of the Year award for 2009 went to Tim Lee.—contributed
