Robbie Cummins was presented with first prize in Country Energy and The Cobar Weekly’s Christmas Lights Competition by Cobar Girl Guides leader Jacinta Thatcher and guides Madison Marsh, Grace Wilkin, Michaela Christie and Mackenzie Marsh.
This year’s Christmas lights competition sponsored by Country Energy and The Cobar Weekly was won by a very surprised Robbie Cummins of 8 Molineaux Street.
Mr Cummins only found out that his lights display had been nominated for the competition on the evening of the judging.
Leonie Cummins nominated her husband in the competition without his knowledge.
“He doesn’t do it for the money,” she said.
“He does it for the kids.”
This year’s competition judges, Cobar Girl Guides, said the Cummins’ display was the best “because it was well planned with a train, reindeer and movie playing”.
The Cummins’ put the majority of their lights up on December 1 and keep adding to the display for about a week and a half before taking it down on January 1 .
Mr Cummins said he has been collecting lights for about 22 years and adds a couple of new things to his collection each year.
This year’s display featured numerous lights as well as Christmas music, movies, a life-size Santa, a train and lots more.
In second place this year was the Brown Family (16 Jones Drive) and the Lawrence family (11 Wood Street) in third place.
The prizes this year were sponsored by Country Energy, with first place collecting $300 of Cobar quids, second place $150 of Cobar quids and third place $50 of Cobar Quids.—Eathan Dunlevy
