A number of people were lucky to escape serious injury after an accident which left two people trapped in a vehicle.
The driver and three passengers of a vehicle which overturned on the Barrier Highway east of Cobar were all taken to hospital with just minor cuts and abrasions following the accident on Saturday.
Senior Constable Sandy Gibson said the vehicle, which was towing a caravan, was attempting to overtake a road train approximately 20km east of Cobar when the accident occurred at 11.40am on Saturday.
She said one of the caravan’s wheel’s travelled off the road into gravel, causing the caravan to sway side to side while beside the truck.
“The caravan’s offside wheel again drove off the road and it slid off into a table drain, before the caravan flipped onto its side and slid down the road.
“This caused the vehicle to roll onto its side and both the vehicle and van slid across the road in front of the truck.”
She said luckily the truck driver had managed to almost completely stop the truck, and it made only light contact with the caravan.
Two of the car’s passengers were able to climb out of the vehicle, however the driver and one rear passenger were trapped by their seatbelts and against the door for a period of time.
Cobar State Emergency Service members attended the scene where they had to cut the roof off the car to free the passengers.
The truck driver and passenger were both unhurt in the accident.
Senior Constable Gibson said the 53 year old female driver of the car has been issued with an infringement notice for not overtaking when safe.
