Easy wins for Nymagee and Colts in senior cricket

Wednesday December 23, 2009

In the last senior cricket competition games before the Christmas break Nymagee and Ox Colts had relatively easy wins over Atlas Copco/Golfy 2 and RSL.

Ox Colts won the toss and batted first against RSL and, despite getting off to a reasonable start of 26 for the first wicket, they were unable to take charge and get on top of the RSL bowling.

Most of the Ox Colts batsmen made starts but the highest score was only 36 by Stewart Fraser and Mal Hillier made 20.

The RSL bowlers shared the wickets with Geoff Potter taking 3/35, and Shane Munro and Glenn Spinks took two wickets each.

Colts were bowled out in the 37th over for a disappointing score of 133.

Batting under lights, RSL made a sound start with Spinks and Clay Neale scoring 34 before Spinks was out for 17.

Neale tried to keep the innings together but couldn’t get anyone to stay with him.

He was finally out for a well compiled 35 when the score was 7/71 and RSL were all out soon after for 79.

Craig Tanke 3/25 and David Watson 3/29 were the main wicket-takers.

On No.2 Oval Nymagee batted first and, with their strongest side in, looked set for a big score.

Roger Mitchell and Doug North were both out cheaply but Craig Dillon and Phil Harley took the score to 84 before Harley was out.

Dillon was run out next for 62 when the score was 107. Mathew Nicholson 29, Jade Buckman 39, Travis Buckman 21 chipped in to boost the score to a respectable 219 off their 50 overs.

Atlas Copco/Golfy 2 did well to restrict Nymagee to 219; Damien Harbison with 2/23 and Justin Richardson 2/45 were the pick of the bowlers.

Atlas Copco/Golfy 2 made a bad start in their run-chase losing 4/30. Ben Wright has failed to score in his last two innings but put all that behind him and batted well enough to give the “young guns” a sniff of victory.

He and Ray Ebsworth put on 108 runs for the fifth wicket and both recorded their highest scores—Wright with 77 and Ebsworth 22.

Unfortunately they were both out when the score was 138 and the AtlasCopco/Golfy 2 innings folded quickly after for 142.—Wisden
