The Cobar Rugby Club is gearing up for a visit from one of the all-time great rugby players, John Eales, on Thursday February 18, 2010.
The former Queensland and Australia lock who retired in 2001 after playing for 10 years, has the reputation of being the best rugby player Australia has ever produced.
Eales played in two successful World Cup competitions, captained the Wallabies side to victories in the 1999 World Cup, four Bledisloe Cup wins and two Tri-Nations series.
He also led the Wallabies to their first ever series victory over the British and Irish Lions.
Eales has been a great ambassador for the sport and is a respected figure in world rugby.
According to his online bio, over the 10 years of his playing career he played 86 Tests for Australia, captaining them on 55 occasions accumulating 173 test points.
In 2002, Eales began a career in the corporate world and is a director of a financial group and holds positions on several boards.
Cobar Rugby Club Life Member Peter Payne was instrumental in attracting Eales to make the trip to Cobar and is more than excited about his visit next February.
“The great John Eales kick-starting the Cobar Rugby Club’s 2010 season will be a huge boost for Western Plains Rugby and also one of the biggest deals Cobar has witnessed for a long, long time,” Mr Payne said.
“In fact I cannot think of anything bigger and I have lived in this town for 47 years!”
