Potter claims two wins in two weeks
Wednesday February 24, 2010
The Cobar junior cricket 16s competition has recommenced with the tenth game of the competition played last Tuesday afternoon at Ward Oval No 3.
Both Wade Potter’s and Nicola Harbison’s teams battled for numbers, so an eight-a-side match was played.
Potter’s team won the toss and batted first.
Their entire innings was studded with regular wickets right to the end of their 30 overs.
Potter’s wicket fell early for one run.
He was soon followed by Jessie Brennan (also for one), Bronte Lee (9), Sam Best (3), Taylor Gilbert (4).
The backbone of the innings, with a commanding effort of 36, came from Luke Hillier.
Sundries, with 31, helped Potter’s side to reach their total of 87.
Harbison, with 2/12 and two catches, stood out for her team in the fielding.
She was also supported in the bowling by Dylan Prince with 1/2 and Ethan Black 1/10.
The Harbison team innings fell into a hole early with Black out for a “plucker duck”, however a great partnership between Harbison and Prince took the score on to 58 in the 12th over.
Harbison was then out for 13.
Max Hillier fell soon after for two, and a tail end collapse happened with the last three wickets falling for four runs.
Man of the Match, Prince, played with confidence, power and intelligence in his innings to finish with 43.
A final score total of 84 saw the side fall three runs short of the target in the 19th over.
Best with 2/6, Dale Manns 1/8 and Gilbert 1/9 were the pick of the bowlers.
Team points went to: Prince (3), Harbison (2) and Max Hillier (1); Luke Hillier (3), Bronte Lee (2) and Best (1).
In the ninth round played the week before, Wade Potter’s side claimed a 13 runs victory.
Potter seemed to have the edge after he won the toss and chose to bat first, however the innings never seemed to gain any stability, and wickets fell regularly.
Dale Manns was bowled for two and Jacob Ryan went for a duck.
They were quickly followed by Sam Best, bowled for three and Taylor Gilbert had her stumps rattled for seven.
After just nine overs Potter’s team was not looking too good with the score at 4/31.
A rear guard action by Jessie Brennan and Luke Hillier took the score on to 45 before Brennan was out for five brilliantly caught by Ellie Potter at square leg.
He was followed immediately by Dylan Prince who went for one.
Luke Hillier and Potter took the score to 84 before Hillier was bowled for 14, leaving Potter 17 not out.
Ellie Potter, with 2/9, was the outstanding bowler. She was well supported by Nicola Harbison 1/9 and Ethan Black 1/10.
The run chase by David Watson’s team hit a hurdle in the second over with Jacob Good bowled for one.
Ethan Black went soon after, also bowled for one.
Tilley Power and Max Hillier steered the innings with a good partnership of 27 before Power was out for seven, followed by Jack Kershaw for a “poultry pack”.
Black with 17 not out, held the tail end together but with the loss of Watson for four, and Harbison for three, the innings ended 13 runs short of the target.
Man of the Match Luke Hiller, with 4/10 and two catches, made the game look so easy to play.
Gilbert with 2/11 and Manns 1/6 mopped up the Watson innings tail.
Team points went to Luke Hillier (3), Brennan (2), Wade Potter (1); Ellie Potter (3), Black (2) and Max Hillier (1).—contributed
