Basketball season begins

Wednesday February 24, 2010

Little A's
First round winners, the Flashmans team of Callie Black, Fiona Mortimer, Jo-Louise Prisk, Cassie Walmsley, Corrine Syme and Breeanna Beitz..

A new season of the women’s basketball competition began on Monday night at the Cobar Youth & Fitness Centre with Flashmans and Red Earthlings recording first round wins.
Flashmans’ years of playing experience showed in their match against the Golfie Girls.
They took the lead from the outset and the Golfie Girls, who were without the services of their injured captain Zoë Harland (who coached from the sideline) could not form any cohesive play to counteract Flashmans’ aggressive play, committed rebounding and accurate shooting style of play.
Flashmans finished the match 10 point winners with the final score 30-20.
At first Red Earthlings looked as though they would easily clean up their younger Brilliams Blazers opposition who had a shaky start to the game.
However it didn’t take Brilliams Blazers long to sort out their act and they had tied the game 12-all at half time with some sharp shooting by Hannah Young.
The game was still deadlocked (13-all) at three quarter time and it was a final basket by the game’s top scorer, Tanya Huon, that gave Red Earthlings the 26-24 win.
