The Cobar Athletic and Triathlon Squad (CATS) held their second triathlon event of the year on Sunday at the Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool.
CATS club member Rob Dickerson said the day was once again a success due to the enthusiasm of competitors and help from volunteers to organise and run the event.
“The difficult early 7am start is to avoid the heat and be off the road early,” Mr Dickerson said.
“It was the same format as the last race with a 500 metre swim in the pool, 20km ride on the airport road and 4 km run around the big tree at the Newey.”
Mr Dickerson said a head wind experienced by competitors during the bike leg on Sunday also added to the challenge already offered by a few hills encountered on the ride and run legs of the course.
There were nine starters for Sunday’s event with six males and three females competing.
The winner of the men’s division was Greg Brown with an overall time of one hour two minutes while Georgia Baker led the females home finishing the course in one hour 19 minutes.
Wade Potter recorded the fastest swim time and the others couldn’t match Brown on the run leg.
Second home in the women’s division was Stephanie Grosser who showed a big improvement in the run section to challenge Baker at the finish line.
Also showing improvement was Jessie Channell who took three minutes off her previous best time recorded at last month’s event.
Another triathlon will be held next month and Mr Dickerson said the club welcomes new competitors to join them for the next race.—contributed
