Main street works near final phase

Cobar’s main street beautification project is nearing the home stretch according to Council’s special projects officer Angela Shepherd.
Ms Shepherd said with workers currently laying concrete kerb and guttering in readiness for paving, the final streetscape is starting to take shape.
“Once the paving is done all that is left to happen is for Country Energy to finish putting the power underground, and the new light poles to be installed.
“After that the street furniture and plants will be put in and the project will be finished,” she said.
Country Energy’s work is booked in for June and July, with minimal disruption expected for the switchover to underground power.
“The workers are currently laying all the services required for that,” Ms Shepherd said.
She said the project has been running smoothly since council took over works from the former contractor.
“We have had some local contractors working on it as well as our own council staff, and this week Central West Surveying and Civil have provided some skills that we didn’t have available here.
“It’s definitely moving quickly and we are on the home run,” Ms Shepherd said.
