Solar panels installed at pool to offset electricity costs

Solar panels have were recently installed at the Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool to help capture electricity to be sold back into the system, offsetting the costs of running the pool.
Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool is one step closer to providing energy savings for Cobar Shire Council with the recent installation of solar panels at the site.
The 96 solar panels have been installed on the water treatment room at the western end of the 50m pool and the clubhouse, with the project costing around $120,000
Cobar Shire Council received funding under the NSW Government Public Facilities Program for the entire pool upgrade project, a portion of which was allocated to the solar panel project.
Council’s special projects officer Angela Shepherd said council had originally planned to heat the pool with solar panels, however the project would have had a very high cost.
“Council has decided it would be a better investment to generate electricity to offset the cost of running the pool,” Ms Shepherd said.
The 20KW solar photovoltaic system will be completed in the coming months with two 10KW grid interactive inverters, which are yet to arrive due to a worldwide supply shortage.
When complete, the setup will feed electricity back into the system, generating an income for council.
