Ox Bushies break the hoodoo to win Twenty20 title

Wednesday March 24, 2010

Little A's
The Ox Bushies Twenty20 cricket side claimed the inaugural Twenty20 cricket title with a win over the CSA team in Friday night’s grand final game under lights at Ward Oval.
.

It took until the very last game of the season (which included more than 20 matches in Twenty/20 cricket and the 50 over competition) for the team batting second under lights to break the hoodoo and actually win the match but the Ox Bushies did just that on Friday night to win the Twenty20 inaugural title in fine style.
Friday’s match was a low scoring but hard fought victory for the Ox Bushies over the CSA team.
CSA captain Jade Buckman won the toss and batted first on a good wicket, however CSA was soon on the back foot with the loss of opener Jay Egan for a duck on the third ball of the innings.
Chris Barnett, who has been afflicted with numerous ducks over the Twenty20 season, looked to be off to a fine start getting a run in early however that was all he got and he followed Egan in the third over.
Both wickets were taken by Stewart Fraser.
After Wayne Josephson had to retire hurt
(on 9) and Murray Robotham was dismissed for (1), CSA’s chances of setting the Ox Bushies a big total to chase was diminished significantly.
Buckman was then joined at the crease by Robbie Mitchell and together they tried to resurrect the position.
However when Buckman was dismissed for 37 (which was the top score of the match), wickets continued to fall at regular intervals.
Mitchell was the only other CSA batsman to make double figures scoring (25).
CSA’s innings finished at 9/89 from 16 overs with Josephson unable to return to the batting crease.
Buckman hit two sixes and Josephson and Mitchell each hit one over the boundary.
The best bowling figures for the Ox Bushies were achieved by Mark Fraser who took 3/9 from his three overs.
He was ably supported by dad, Stewart, with 2/17 from three overs, Mal Hillier 1/9 from two overs, Stephen Nicholson 1/13 from two overs and Craig Tanke 1/23 from three overs.
Ox Bushies lost five wickets in chasing down the 90 run target, however it was not all easy going for their batsman and it took them until the first ball of the 19th over to score the winning runs.
Opening batsman Craig Dillon top scored for the Ox Bushies with (25) and he hit the only six of their innings.
The other batsmen to reach double figures were Tom Good with (21) and Craig Tanke (15). Both remained not out.
Wicket takers for CSA were Barnett with 2/14, Buckman 1/10, Robotham 1/12 and Tony Polack 1/13, all from three overs each.
Mark Fraser, with his three wickets for nine runs and a great run out, was named as the Eagle Boys Pizza Player of the Match.
Jacob Good was the best fieldsman for Ox Bushies and Dean Dunne the best fieldsman for CSA.
Ox Bushies’ captain Stewart Fraser was presented with the winners perpetual trophy, The Collins Family Cup (donated by the Cobar Junior Cricket Association) and all members of the winning team were presented with winners medallions.
At last weekend’s senior cricket presentation night the awards for the inaugural Twenty/20 competition were handed out with Jade Buckman named Player of the Year; Stewart Fraser with 84 had the Highest Score; Most Sixes Hit (joint winners) Paul Gauci and Dan Howard 5; Most Wickets Murray Robotham 9; Best Bowling Figures Glenn Spinks 5/5; Best Bowling Economy Rate Tom Good 1.57; Best Fieldsman (joint winners) Mark Fraser and Baden Smith.—contributed
