Cobar U15s are a potent force with 62-4 win

Jim Delboux steps around his St Johns opposition in the U/15s junior league match at Tom Knight Memorial Oval on Saturday.

After several weeks of disruptions with injuries and representative commitments the Cobar U/15s junior rugby league team took to the field with a full side at Tom Knight Memorial Oval on Saturday and showed how potent they can be with a 62-4 win over Dubbo’s St Johns.

The young Roosters went on a 12 try to one scoring rampage, which St Johns found impossible to put a hold on no matter what they tried.

The small, but highly mobile, Cobar forward pack dominated from the start, and kept up the intensity throughout the entire game.

Smart ball plays from pivot Jim Delboux around the ruck area put his forwards through holes time and time again.

The long striding Tom Sellick crossed for a double, Kahleb Whitehurst was his usual instrumental self scoring one and Alec Burton was also rewarded for his hard work with a try.

The back line scored at will and left the St Johns defenders dumbfounded with a vast array of slight of hand moves.

The magician, Wade Potter, made a mockery of the St John defensive line, slotting centres Dave Watson, Macauley Dawson and Clinton Everett through for nine tries between them.

Defence was another high class aspect of Cobar’s game, gang tackles and bone crunching hits aplenty, with Burton, Dunlevy, Watson, Potter and Delboux showing the St Johns boys there was nowhere to hide.

Six U/13s, Jacob Good, Jesse Betcke, Braydon Pennell, Jock Beazley, Alex Madden and Travis Andrew combined with three U/11s, Ethen Bereyne, Will Crotty and Jay Ellison to form a U/13s side to take on the might of last year’s premiers Eastridge.

All the boys played well above their weight, height and size and the courage and spirit these young men showed the crowd on hand was a real credit to themselves, their families, the game and the club.

The score was a 100-0 blow out, but the commitment to the game and, to the club, is the stuff legends are made of!—Ron Law
