B Blues still at top

Wednesday June 24, 2009

The Cobar Blues B Grade netball side proved again on Saturday why they are on top of the table, with the team scoring another win over Ungarie to remain undefeated in the Northern Riverina Netball League competition.

The Cobar side took on Ungarie at Ungarie defeating them 43-27.

Displaying fantastic movement throughout the court and great ball skills the Blues were unbeatable.

Nicole Snudden and Ellie Russell combined well in the goal circle and their shooting was spot on resulting in nothing but the net.

The Blues’ defensive end was rotated all game and proved to be too strong for Ungarie with various intercepts and turnovers allowing Cobar to score extra goals.

With a tough, fit, centre court the girls remained calm and focused which made the game flow in Cobar’s favour.

Snudden, shooting a grand total of 29 goals secured her spot for the Coach’s Award.

The excellent form of Brittany Fugar and Amy McConville throughout the game had both girls sharing Players’ Player honours.

In the A Grade netball competition, the Ungarie side was the better team on the day defeating Cobar 59-43.

With an injury occurring in the first few minutes, Cobar had to regather and refocus and handled the changes well.

Captain Tanya Huon, at Centre, kept the team alive with her positive encouragement throughout the game.

Lisa Spinks moved into Goal Attack and Lane Poland (Goal Shooter) teamed well in the goal circle.

Brittany Fugar stepped up into A Grade as Wing Attack and adapted well to the position.

Vanessa Kurta (Goal Keeper) and Amie Jacklin (Goal Defence) showed great defensive work and were backed up by Demi Smith (Wing Defence).

With Ungarie’s accurate game they remained too good for Cobar.

Stand-out skills from Spinks earned her the Coach’s Award while Smith collected Players’ Player honours.

This Saturday’s game should be a good one with the Blues taking on Hillston at the Ward Oval netball courts.–True Blue Cattle Dog
