Local students’ HSC results above average

Wednesday December 24, 2008

A number of Cobar High School (CHS) students who sat their Higher School Certificate (HSC) exams this year have received excellent marks with 14 Band 5 results recorded by the Class of 2008.

CHS principal Peter Cochrane said the 14 Band 5 results were very pleasing with almost 40 per cent of the 2008 class receiving marks in the top two bands.

He said one Cobar student in particular did very well, recording three of the Band 5 results.

“The students who put in the hard work got the results they deserved,” Mr Cochrane said last week.

“Cobar students achieved above the state mean results in a number of subjects including Industrial Technology, Mathematics General and Metal and Engineering.

“Our best results were in Retail Operations with students recording 8.6 percentage points above the state mean,” Mr Cochrane said.

“This continues the tradition of good results in Retail Operations for the school.”

CHS’s 26 students were among 67,000 students who logged on, phoned in or accessed their HSC results via a text message last week.

The Department of Education and Training Western Regional Director, Carole McDiarmid, said there were some “truly outstanding results in Western NSW”.

“These students should be very proud of their achievements,” Ms McDiarmid said.

“Our Year 12 students are continuing to impress with their outstanding efforts in our world class HSC, and their results are indicative of the outstanding education system we have in NSW.

“Principals across Western NSW Region have expressed their pride in their student performances and the skills of the teachers teaching the senior classes,” Ms McDiarmid said.
