Cobar Brick Works (CBW) mixed touch team at Ward Oval on Thursday. They were defeated 5-3 by Joblink in a close match.
Several close results featured in last Thursday’s final round of the Cobar Mixed Touch competition before the Christmas/New Year holiday break.
Taking the field without experienced playmakers Doug North and Paul Gauci, competition leaders RGM just managed to survive a close encounter with rookies Orana Credit Union.
After leading 3-1 at halftime thanks to tries by Luke Haldoupis, Rhys Power and Josh Kemp, RGM held on to win with Jaimee Cohen’s late two point try proving the match sealer.
Wade Potter, Khaleb Whitehurst and Jim Delboux crossed for OCU.
Young improvers, Joblink, also recorded a narrow 5-3 victory over Cobar Brick Works (CBW).
Clever teamwork by CBW resulted in first half tries to Simon Prince, Ben Turton and Rohan Lloyd but Taylor Gilbert’s two touchdowns (female tries are worth two points), followed by Jake De Jong’s clean break, regained the lead and ensured a tight win for Joblink.
Second placed GW Spartans overpowered archrivals CCI Rebels 7-2 in an enterprising match of the round performance that included smart tries to Zoë Harland, Brittany Fugar, Sean Cox, Jake Smith and Matt Garland.
A late revival by the Rebels saw Amie Jacklin post consolation points for the Rebels.
DJW turned on a scoring spree to
overwhelm Cool Runnings 23-1 in their match.
Female stars Jasmine Bain, Callie Fugar and Sally Rainbow contributed 20 points to their team’s massive tally with Jason Kershaw, Sam Sellick and Stephen Gillett adding the extras.
Andrew Chen posted a late try for Cool Runnings.—contributed
