Cobar residents showed their talent for turning the most unlikely materials into works of art at the official opening of the Waste to Art at Cobar Shire Library on Monday night. Among the locals who attended the opening were: (top left) Clare Montgomery with her creation ‘Thread Trash Coat’, which was the winner of the Open-Craftwork section; (right) Issie Pretty and Ian Waters viewing Cobar High School student Shanne Scott’s ‘Poker Fashion’ and; (bottom left) mayor Lilliane Brady and Cobar Waste to Art coordinator Pete Rogers. The exhibition is the first of its type in Cobar and follows on from a workshop held earlier this year. The exhibition
attracted 50 entries in 10 categories, with winners including Mitchell Dunne; Luke Ylias, Henry Tanke and Josh McGeogh; Ella
Roberts; Mark Johnson; Clare Montgomery; Carol Pritchard; Andrea Thorpe; and Scott Meadows. The Waste to Art concept is steered by Netwaste and sponsored by Sims Metal, and was facilitated by Cobar Shire Council’s Scott Kahler. Cobar Arts Council’s Pete Rogers coordinated the workshop and competition. Winning entries from the local exhibition will now go on to the regional
exhibition in Gilgandra in May.
