Golfie’s championship games contested

Wednesday March 25, 2009

A number of bowls club championship games have been contested in the past week at the Golfie.

In the first round of the Singles championships, Daniel Holt won over Chris Cooney 31-26, Garry Middleton defeated Kevin Kershaw 31-28 and Justin Bartlett was too good for Trevor Bartlett 27-6.

Holt was back in the winners’ circle in the Club Pairs championships when he teamed up with Peter Franks to defeat Paul Henry and Don Datson 28-9.

Chris Cooney and Kevin Kershaw won their match 35-9 against Phillip Arnold and Kevin Barrow.

Ben Jentjens and Rod Leahy defeated Tom Fox and Justin Bartlett 19-13 after a tense battle, after being 9-all after 14 ends.

The Golden Oldies competition at the club last Thursday had a field of 10 players with Sid Fugar and Tom Fox winning with 13 points.

Sunday’s Dollars Run had 18 players on the green and, with two rinks of championship contests being played at the same time, it looked “like the good old times”.

The winners of the Dollars Run was the triples team of Peter Lewis, Trevor Bartlett and Garry Middleton on a score of +9 from Max Humphries and Doug Hudson on +6.

The Golfie No 7 Pennants team will play Bourke at home this Sunday. (The Services Club is not competing this year.)

The No 3 Pennants competition has an unusual competition this year and commences with Coonabarabran playing the Golfie side at the Golfie on May 2 and 3.

The Golfie side will then travel to Coonabarabran on May 23 and May 24.—Max
