The Cobar Blues A and B Grade netball teams had big wins over their Tullibigeal opposition at Tullibigeal on Saturday in the Northern Riverina League competition.
The A Grade match was a high scoring affair for the Cobar team with Lane Poland sinking a massive 55 goals to lead her side to a 71-12 win.
Cobar started their match confidently and, with the score at 21-2 at the end of the first quarter, they never looked like being caught by their opposition.
The Cobar defence didn’t wane throughout the match limiting Tullibigeal to just two goals each in the next two quarters.
Venessa Kurta (at Goal Keeper) picked up the Players’ Player award while the Coach’s award went to Wing Attack Karleen Duell.
Coach Amie Jacklin said it was “an awesome game”.
“All the players did a great job to maintain intensity until the very end of the match, despite having such a massive lead early on.
“Tanya Huon (Centre) and Karleen Duell (Wing Attack) put some great balls into the circle where Lane Poland was once again double teamed in defence, leaving Zoë Harland to have free run of the base line,” Jacklin said.
“Demi Smith (Wing Defence) was fantastic on the centre passes cutting off her player from receiving the ball and Venessa Kurta intercepted numerous passes as her player tried to open up the circle by driving out.
“All in all it was a great team effort with much more ‘team talk’ than last week.”
Cobar’s B Grade side continued their good form from the previous week and also scored a convincing 42-16 win on Saturday.
After leading 9-5 at the end of the first quarter, Cobar upped the ante and went into the half time break comfortably leading 21-9.
Emma Barton came off the bench for the Blues and showed she’d lost no form during her absence to score 20 goals for the Blues.
“Emma’s height will be a great advantage to the Blues in the goal circle in terms of getting rebounds,” Coach Jacklin said.
“Emma slotted in well to both the Goal Shooter and Goal Attack positions and worked well with both Simone Howard and Briana Francisco.”
The Coach’s award and Players Player went to Centre Jenna Fullagar.
“Jenna had a great defensive game and, along with Naomi Whitehurst (WD), picked off and intercepted a number of balls in the centre court.”
Coach Jacklin also listed Amy McConville and Karlee Davis (defence) and Chelsea Kershaw and Sarah Irvine (attack) as the team’s best players on the day.
