Wednesday May 26, 2010

Cobar Bowling and Golf Club hosted the quarterly regional ClubsNSW conference over the weekend.
More than 60 executives and representatives (and their partners) from clubs and club services across the central western
region converged on Cobar over the
weekend to attend a ClubsNSW quarterly meeting.
The meeting was hosted by the Cobar Bowling & Golf Club with club secretary/manager Neil Urquhart saying managers and directors from other clubs across the region had heard about the great new facilities at the Golfie and were pleased to have the opportunity to see them first hand.
The retiring Head of Clubs David Costello was in attendance to officially hand over the reigns to new Head of Clubs Anthony Ball along with Chairman of ClubsNSW Peter Newell.
Also in attendance were representatives of a number of associated club services including Keno, Aristocrat, Konami, IGT, Tooheys and Carlton.
Delegates to the meetings were informed of the latest government regulations, updates and changes that affect the clubs industry and while in Cobar the visitors and their partners also took part in a number of social activities over the weekend.
Some were keen to try their luck on the sand green golf course and bowling greens while others were interested to learn the history of Cobar and joined an Experience Cobar bus tour on Saturday morning.
The group were also special guests at the Brennan Centre’s Dancing Under the Stars fundraiser held at the Golfie on Saturday night.
A traditional McMaster camp oven dinner rounded out their ‘Outback’ experience before they departed on Sunday afternoon.
“It was a chance for us to showcase Cobar’s facilities to the region and a boost for the local tourism industry,” Mr Urquhart said.
“It was also a good opportunity for our board members to attend a ClubsNSW meeting right on their doorstep and be able to speak to other managers and board directors from around the region.”
Feedback from the visitors was very positive with most highly praising their visit to Cobar.
