Golfers contest International Bowl

Wednesday May 26, 2010

The first round of the women’s golf International Bowl was played last Wednesday with Narelle Green the winner on a count back from Ann Dunn.
Both finished the course with a 73 net score.
The place getters were Janine Ryan (75 net), Fay Hardwick (76 net) and Glenis Prisk (also 76 net).
It was a three-way tie when it came to the best putter on the day with Dunn, Ryan and Sally Bannister all recording 26 putts.
Saturday’s second round of the International Bowl was played in conjunction with the Mabel McKenzie Brooch and was a well deserved victory for Youlanda Taylor with a 68 net score. Gloria Hay and Narelle Green were hot on her heels, both with 69 net.
The minor placings were filled out by Judy Mitchell (71 net), Robynne Morton (72 net), Susan Wyllie (73 net), Angela Fryer (74 net) and Donna Prendergast (78 net).
Gloria Hay had her putter well on line for 22 putts around the 18 holes.
Sunday’s 3BBB Classic had a field of 11 teams consisting of three players each, fighting it out for a chance to advance to the next round in Molong. Bessie Kitson, Pat Polack and Gloria Hay knocked off last year’s winners (who had a score of +12) with a wonderful score of +14 to make the trip to Molong in August.
Polack (after receiving a helping hand with her card from Robynne Morton) recorded a score of +8 to take out the individual ball competition and ensured her team’s victory.
Runners-up in the ball competition were Ann Dunn (+3), Judy Mitchell (who also scored +3 and was a member of the ‘Outback Swingers Hats’ team with Alma Rogers and Susan Wyllie). The minor placings were filled by Youlanda Taylor (+3), Vivian Beehan (+2), Sally Bannister (+2), Sue-Ellen Dunne (+2) and Donna Prendergast (+1).
The Cobar women’s pennants team travelled to Nyngan last Tuesday. Heather Forster, Youlanda Taylor and Glenis Prisk each won their respective matches to ensure Cobar advances to the next round.
Today is a par event; the Western District Spoon is up for grabs on Saturday and is a stableford game, and Sunday is a par event.
Ruth and Bob Baker, Gloria and Garry Hay and Jannine and Garry Wilkin will represent Cobar in the Keno Mixed 4 Ball play off in Coonamble on Sunday.—T’d Off
