Cobar Police say the importance of wearing a bicycle helmet has been highlighted this week after a nine year old cyclist suffered a fractured skull in an accident on a local street.
The nine year old collided with a vehicle at the intersection of Lamrock and Monaghan streets at 4.25pm last Friday.
Senior Constable Adam Gibson said the nine year old, who was not wearing a bike helmet, crossed the intersection into the path of a
vehicle and collided with its driver’s side
mirror.
Ambulance and police personnel attended the scene, with the child transported to Cobar Hospital and later Dubbo Base Hospital suffering a fractured skull.
Senior Constable Gibson said no action will be taken against the driver of the vehicle, as the child was at fault.
“This accident really reinforces how important it is for all bicycle riders to wear a helmet when riding on public roads,” he said.
“Parents need to ensure their children are properly protected.”
