NSW Golf Association president Stuart Cox with NSW Sand Green Champion Matt Egan and NSW Junior Sand Green Champion Jeb Bishop at the trophy presentations at the Cobar Bowling and Golf Club on Sunday afternoon.

Matt Egan won his second successive Sand Green Championships when he took out the New South Wales title in spectacular style by 11 shots at the Cobar Golf Course on Sunday.

Earlier this year Egan won the 2009 Queensland Sand Green Championships and he started as the favourite for this year’s NSW competition on Saturday.

He was the overnight leader by one stroke after the first day of play on Saturday and extended that lead on Day 2 with a five under par round of 66 to claim the NSW title and trophy.

Cobar golfers dominated the big field for this year’s event with Craig Dillon finishing in second place on a count back with Bill Douglas.

Both finished with scores of seven over par for the 36 holes.

Cobar junior golfers also featured in the 2009 championships with Jeb Bishop (after rounds of 76 and 75) winning the NSW Junior Sand Green Championship title while Jacob Ryan led the juniors home in the net competition with scores of 66 and 60 net.

There was a record 37 teams entered for the Club Teams event this year with the family team of Luke, Dominic and Peter York from Barraba the overall winners.

The Cobar team of Brien Obray, Bailey Prendergast and Bill Bartlett were the runners-up.

In all, 130 golfers from all over NSW competed in the tournament.

NSW Golf Association officials were very impressed with the running of the event and catering for the players. Volunteers were also acknowledged at the presentations.—Ace
