A community partnership between five local organisations will have wide ranging benefits, with the purchase last week of a new portable eight-piece stage.

The stage was purchased with funding support from Cobar Management CSA ($5,000) Peak Gold ($5,000), Cobar Arts Council ($5,000), Cobar Bowling and Golf Club ($1,000 plus freight costs) and Western Studio of Performing Arts Parent Committee ($1,000).

Cobar Management initially purchased the portable stage equipment, steps and portable stage drapes for the purpose of community use, with the other organisations making donations towards the project.

Cobar Arts Council will continue to fundraise to make up a shortfall in the donations.

The partnership was initiated by Cobar Management following a recent community survey conducted by CSA’s Sue Ham, which identified the need for ‘entertainment’ facilities in Cobar and a large stage suitable for a range of live performances.

Cobar Arts Council secretary Narelle Retallick said responsibility of ownership of the equipment was approved at their general meeting held on Sunday.

“The dual level stage is identical to the Golfie’s portable stage and put together will cover an area of 50 square metres and provide a much needed large performance/dance floor.

“Being portable it can also be put together in a variety of ways, such as a catwalk,” Mrs Retallick said.

The stage will be housed at the Cobar Bowling and Golf Club.

Community groups can loan the stage for use outside of the golf club by making an application through the Cobar Arts Council.
