Cobar Pony Club held a good old fashioned bush gymkhana on Sunday.
It was a cool early start for the good roll-up of riders that ranged from grandparents to two year olds competing.
Riders were put into two teams, Yellow ‘Fort Bourke’ and White ‘Occidental’.
The day commenced with timed events, a keyhole race, rider in action, a diamond flag race, barrels, water and mug race and lots more.
The competitions were modified to suit both junior and senior riders, for example, juniors completed a ‘walk trot and lead’ and seniors completed a ‘walk trot and gallop’.
In the boot race, boots were put all in a pile while stewards held on to horses, and then riders had a foot race to boots, put them on then mounted their horses and race to the finish line.
Members that were not riding also had some fun with other organised games and races.
At the end of the day Occidental team were the winners and Fort Bourke team were runners-up.
Fort Bourke however blitzed Occidental in the ‘riders in action’ event, with lots of ‘bushie’ riders.
There was also a demonstration carried out by Mike Mitchell and Jack Maloney of the age old ‘rescue race’.—contributed
