Harbisons put on a good show at Ward Oval
Wednesday November 26, 2008

Jake Harbison (pictured above), along with his brother Damien, scored half of their team’s runs in their senior cricket match at Ward Oval on Saturday.
A cold and windy day made for two low-scoring games in last week’s senior cricket competition with Atlas Copco/Golfy 2 having a good win over Golf Club while Nymagee accounted for GW Colts out at Nymagee.
It was the Harbison show on No. 3 Oval
at Ward Oval in their game against Golf Club where the pair (Jake and Damien) scored well over half the runs and took most of the wickets for their Atlas Copco/Golfy 2 side!
Golf Club gave away 37 sundries in the Atlas Copco/Golfy 2 team score of 158 and the rest of the team only scored 28 runs
between them.
Damien Harbison enjoys the No.3 Oval where he clears the fence easily and hit two sixes in his innings of 68. Brother Jake made 25.
For Golf Club, Andrew Buckman backed up from his good bowling last week to pick up three wickets for 33 and Jay Egan took 3/29. Jason Toomey, enjoying the slower
No. 3 Oval more than Nymagee Oval, took 3/27 and Jade Townsend took two good catches.
When it came their turn to bat, Golf Club could only muster 77 in reply.
Steve Manns celebrated his 50th birthday in positive fashion by opening the batting.
However, the celebrations were short-lived when he was out for a duck.
Blake Collins top-scored with 22 not out and Andrew Buckman, the only other batsman to make double figures, scored 12.
Jake Harbison took 4/12 and Damien Harbison 4/29.
So it turned out to be an easy win for Atlas Copco/Golfy 2 on a cold and windy day.
Out at Nymagee the weather wasn’t any better than in Cobar and a short game resulted.
Nymagee had an easy win over GW Colts with the match all over by lunch.
GW Colts batted first and although maintaining a good scoring rate, were losing wickets at an even faster rate.
Three times during the GW Colts’ innings a batsman was facing a hat-trick.
Stewart Fraser batted well before being skittled by Phil Harley for 35.
Steve Nicholson scored 11 and Alex Fraser hit five fours in his score of 20 not out.
In the bowling, Harley took 4/27, John Potter 2/22 and Doug North 2/4.
Craig Dillon’s one over cost the team 13 runs and helped the GW Colts to a good early run-rate.
The two Mitchells, Roger and Greg, opened the batting and ensured the game would be over by lunch by scoring quickly.
Nymagee managed to lose six wickets chasing the GW Colts’ score of 94 but the game was never in doubt.
Alex Fraser 2/18, Mark Fraser 2/18 and Jodie Fraser 1/15 took five of the six wickets and Slade Neale picked up the big wicket of John Potter by uprooting his middle stump.
Greg Mitchell top-scored for Nymagee with 24.
Baden Smith made 21, Brendan Rodda 15 not out and Roger Mitchell finished with 14.
Unfortunately for GW Colts they were unable to field a full team for the second week in a row.
This week Nymagee will be keen to win the Oldfield Cup back off RSL who will be defending it for the first time in a long period on No.1 Oval.
Atlas Copco/Golfy 2 will play GW Colts on No.2 Oval.-Wisden
