Cobar Junior Triathlon overall winners Wade Potter and Hannah Young with
ambassador Gary Dawson at the Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool yesterday.
It seems like the Australia Day junior triathlon should have been an easy run for this year’s winners, Wade Potter and Hannah Young, after both competed well in the senior triathlon on Sunday.
After all the junior event was only a 1.5km bike ride, 750m run and 100m swim compared to the senior event of 500m swim, 20km ride and a 4km run, however both competitors said they found the junior event a challenge.
“It was hard. Today was more like a sprint,” 16 year old Wade said.
Fifteen year old Hannah was the first female home competing in the 14-15 division.
“I came here today to win and I did,” Hannah said.
“In this sort of event you’ve got to have a positive attitude.”
Other individual section winners and place getters were 14-15 years female 2nd Taylor Gilbert, 12-13 years male 1st Max Hillier and 8-9 years male 1st Charlie Jenkins.
The first team home was the senior team of D Jets (Shane Place, Tony Place and Ethan Mackay).
In the 14-15 years division, the Road Runner team (Courtney Hillier, Ellie Potter and
Grace Power) took line honours from DLE (David Watson, Luke Hillier and Ethan Black).
The 10-11 years team winners were the Manly team of Mark Botten, Quinton Place and Claude Beitz with the Kit Kat team of Niamh Urquhart, Connor McLeod and Georgia Horne in second place.
In the 8-9 years team division the Aussie Team (Lauren Urquhart, Coopa Martin
and Rourke Lennon) were first with the
Rabbitohs (Will Griffiths, Ben Griffiths and Liam Richardson) in second place.
Encouragement awards went to Gabbi
Lennon, Brandy Shepherd Shaun Richardson, Ethan Hyde, Charlie Jenkins and Ethan Black (whose bike chain came off three times in his ride section).
