Budding scientists challenged
Wednesday May 27, 2009

Around 180 budding scientists and engineers converged on Ward Oval yesterday for the annual Outback Science and Engineering Challenge. Among those testing their technical and analytical skills were Cobar High School students Chris Elwell, Rhys Smith, Matt Russell and Jesse Harrison, who showed The Cobar Weekly’s photographer the finer workings of their hovercraft machine. Students from across the region including Broken Hill, Lake Cargelligo and Hillston participated in the challenge, hosted by the Cobar Rotary Club and major sponsors, the Cobar branch of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM). The event is held
annually and aims to encourage high school students to unlock their potential for a future career in the fields of science or engineering.
