Soaking rain falls across the district

Wednesday May 27, 2009

Cobar, along with most other towns in the western district, recorded its best rainfall figures in over a month last week with more than 30mm recorded during the week.

Rainfall was recorded most days last week although it was Tuesday when the rain was most steady, with 17.6mm recorded in the 24 hours to 9am Wednesday morning.

The Cobar Airport automatic weather station recorded 28mm of rainfall for the week.

It was the same story across the region, with Brewarrina, Angledool and Coolabah all recording more than 50mm (over two inches on the old scale) and Bourke, Enngonia and Tilpa recording similar amounts to Cobar.

The rain also kept temperatures down last week, with the temperature only ranging from a maximum of 14.7 degrees to a minimum of 12.1 degrees on Tuesday; and a maximum of 13.6 degrees on Wednesday after a minimum of 12.5 degrees.

More rainfall was recorded this week, with 1mm falling in a downpour around 6am on Tuesday morning.

The forecast is for mostly sunny days this week with cooler temperatures.

A top of 18 degrees is forecast today with some cloud, while it is expected to reach 17 tomorrow on a fine and mostly sunny day.

Cobar is heading for a low of just four degrees on Friday with a maximum of 16
degrees, rising to 18 degrees for the weekend.
