Roosters win
Zacc Douglas, in his First Grade debut for the Cobar Roosters against Wellington on Sunday, had a huge impact in the game scoring the Roosters’ first try.

Cobar Rugby League fans have something to crow about with the Cobar Roosters First Grade side scoring a decisive 52-18 win over Wellington in the third round of the Tooheys New Group 11 Rugby League competition at Tom Knight Oval on Sunday.

The Roosters have been struggling with player numbers since the start of this year’s competition however captain/coach Peter Ford was confident going into Sunday’s match with the First Grade side bolstered by the return of Nick Jentjens and Brett Pitkin to strengthen the Roosters forward pack.

Both recorded high work rates in the Roosters’ win along with Ian Prendergast, Chris Barnett and Chris Gilbert.

Zacc Douglas, on his debut in First Grade, opened the scoring for the Roosters diving over for a try in the opening minutes of the match.

Steve Ford controlled the ruck area well, creating plenty of opportunities for the backs out wide.

Pacey winger Bobby Schofield ran in three tries, Matt Garland scored twice under the posts (and was denied a third) with Ford, Gilbert, Matt McBride and Jye Hellman also crossing for the Roosters.

The Roosters Reserves Grade side was beaten 28-4 by the visitors with Sam Baker scoring Cobar’s only points and Cobar’s Under 18s were outclassed by the Wellington juniors going down 52-18 in their match.
