Local indigenous artist Sharron Ohlsen, Cobar Shire Council general manager Gary Woodman and Outback Arts Regional Indigenous Cultural Development Officer Anita Burcher met recently to discuss arts in Cobar in the year ahead.
Outback Arts Regional Indigenous Cultural Development Officer Anita Burcher and local indigenous artist Sharron Ohlsen met with Cobar Shire Council new general manager Gary Woodman last week.
Mrs Burcher and Ms Ohlsen paid a visit to Mr Woodman last week in his office to introduce themselves; to let Mr Woodman know about the work Outback Arts does in the community and also to acknowledge Cobar Shire for its continued funding support for local art projects.
Mrs Burcher explained council’s funding of $7,991 this year would go towards helping Outback Arts to bring a number of cultural opportunities to Cobar including theatrical and music productions as well as a film making workshop for school aged children.
She said that due to our isolation, Cobar residents “miss out on so much” and “we need more opportunities to be able to experience more arts and cultural events”.
Mr Woodman agreed that “we need to be more cultured” and said he was pleased that council had been able to continue its support of Outback Arts.
