Cobar Pony Club ready to celebrate its 50th anniversary

Wednesday October 28, 2009

The Cobar Pony Club will have plenty to celebrate next weekend, in fact 50 years of achievements, when former and current members come together to celebrate the club’s 50th anniversary.

Long time Cobar Pony Club member and instructor Shirley Mitchell said more than 300 invitations have been sent out to former members inviting them to the club’s reunion dinner on Saturday November 7.

“It’s been hard chasing some people down and we’re hoping we didn’t miss anyone, but if there’s anyone who didn’t get an invitation, they can contact us, and we’ll send one out straight away,” Mrs Mitchell said.

Along with the dinner on Saturday night, the club will hold an afternoon tea on Saturday at the Dalton Park Horse Sports Complex with members of the public invited to go along and view 50 years of Cobar Pony Club memorabilia.

Mrs Mitchell said Zone 17 chief instructor Keith Lowe of Bourke, along with Max Overton (Brewarrina) and Peter Dutton (Nyngan) were instrumental in getting the Cobar club off the ground.

She said a number of early rallies and camps were held at Pat and Bev Roberts’ property Meadowglen with riders from the Houghton, Wells, Strange, Prince and Fairbank families all taking part.
