Cobar-based Far West Region State Emergency Service (SES) deputy controller Marc Coulter was among those in the Australia Day honours list this year.

Mr Coulter was awarded an Emergency Services Medal in the honours list released Monday.

According to Mr Coulter’s biography, Mr Coulter has been a long time active supporter of the SES, particularly the Broken Hill unit.

“His achievements since becoming Local Controller (of the Broken Hill unit) have been impressive,” the nomination says.

The medal is the highest award able to be granted to an SES officer.

Also on the honours list was Department of Education Western NSW regional director Carol McDiarmid, who received a Public Service Medal for her dedication to public education.

Cobar falls into the area which Mrs McDiarmid’s position is responsible for.

According to the biography and nomination for Mrs McDiarmid, she has made an “outstanding contribution” to public education over the past 32 years.

“Mrs McDiarmid’s work is characterised by her willingness to seek world’s best practice to adapt and implement in her local context.

“She is viewed by her colleagues as an outstanding leader, possessing exceptional interpersonal skills, great depth of knowledge, and a passionate vision for the Department of Education and Training,” the nomination said.
