Wednesday January 29, 2009
As the temperatures in Cobar continue to soar, so too does the competition heat up in the Cobar Yabbies (Senior Men’s Swimming Club) weekly competitions.
Harley Toomey raised the bar on Tuesday night swimming spot on his nominated time to win the 50 metres event.
Peter Lloyd was unbeatable in the 30 metres swim recording a time of 0.01 seconds outside his nominated time.
Andrew Lyons had the best result to win the 100 metres event returning a time 0.07 seconds off his nominated time.
The team of Jay Egan and Paul Swainston won the brace relay event, finishing 0.75 seconds off their time.
Last Tuesdays’ competition was also close with Greg Clark the winner of the 30 metres event recording a time of 0.05 seconds off his nominated time.
Murray Harland (0.04) was first in the 50 metres event while Jay Egan (0.26) finished the 100 metres event well ahead of the field.
John Carswell and Ian Settree were the winners of the Brace Relay event.
Settree, swimming twice, also claimed second spot with Bruce Kennedy.
Members took delivery of their new swimmers on Tuesday night and, if they are anything like those used by the Australian Olympic swimmers, then next week’s times just may be even better.—contributed
