Massive haul of Carp busted at Louth

The Louth Fishing Club held a Carp Busting Competition over the Ausralia Day Long weekend with fantastic results.
The Carp Busting competition, the first of its kind at Louth, is part of a national approach in addressing the problem of Carp which are not native fish and are the cause of many river degradation problems.
The Carp Busting Competition was sponsored by the Western Catchment Management Authority with 59 entrants catching and registering 450 Carp.
There was a prize for the biggest single haul of Carp which went to Mark Anderson of Cobar who caught and registered 81 fish.
The first 20 children to register for the competition received a fishing rod and reel.
Following the final weigh-in on Australia Day presentations were made to the winners of each competition category.
In the Under 16 division, the biggest
haul was won by Archie McMaster with 20 fish.
Connor Poiviner registered the heaviest fish while Meg Sandford landed the longest fish.
In the men’s section, Bob Jones’ 2.7kg catch won the heaviest fish prize with Damien Vloedmans and Kevin McMaster 55cm catches tying for the title of the longest fish.
Emma Newton, with 15 fish, picked up the ladies prize for the biggest haul.
Jody Fraser’s 3.5kg catch was the heaviest fish in the ladies’ division and Jenna Marrett’s 42cm fish won the ladies longest fish prize.
Hayden Vloedmans secured the winner’s prize for the biggest fish in the under 12 section.
Kye Poivinen had the heaviest and Tylah Vlodemans landed the longest fish in the Under 12 section.
Along with and Carp busting competition, there was a full weekend of activities at Louth that included tennis, golf and barbecues and a camp oven dinner and also included the release of a batch of new fingerlings into the river.—contributed
