Barry Hay receives police medal
Fifteen years after retiring, former Second Class Police Sergeant Barry Hay has been honoured by the NSW Police Force. NSW Police Deputy Commissioner Dave Owens was in Cobar on Monday afternoon to present Mr Hay with a New South Wales Police Medal for diligence and ethical service. Mr Hay was born in Cobar and enlisted with the NSW Mounted Police in 1963. His police career spans 31 years and during that time he served at Nowendoc, Girilambone, Walcha, Wingham and Wauchope. He served his last eight years as a Sergeant in Charge at the Cobar Police Station and retired in 1994 as a Sergeant Second Class. Mr Hay has previously received a National Medal and was also awarded two police commendations for the arrest of two offenders at Nowendoc in 1967 and the rescue of a child at Apsley Falls in 1975. Mr Hay, along with wife Gloria, chose to make Cobar their home following Mr Hay’s retirement from the force.
