Cobar’s B Grade netball side sits in the hot seat for the finals of the Northern Riverina League competition with their win on Saturday at Tullibigeal giving them minor premiership honours.

In a tough game that ended with a close score of 36-32, Cobar defeated Tullibigeal.

Brilliant performances were recorded from all team members with the Blues particularly strong in the defensive end with Karlee Davis (Goal Defence), Sarah Irvine and Simone Howard (Wing Defence).

Marybeth Baker played her best game of the year showing her skills in every quarter in the Goal Keeper’s position.

Captain Brittany Fugar outsmarted her opposition standing out in the centre court executing some great footwork and ball skills.

Shooters Nicole Snudden and Ellie Russell had a good eye for the ring and were on the ball while Karleen Duell fed the circle superbly.

Fugar was named Players’ Player and Marybeth Baker picked up the Coach’s Award.

The Cobar A Grade team showed that their side was in great shape heading into semi finals with Saturday’s match against Tullibigeal proving they won’t be going down without a hell of a fight.

After a slow start by the Blues (who were down 10-4 at the end of the first quarter), they went on to trounce the home side 43-18.

With the attacking end on fire all game, speedy Lisa Spinks and team captain Tanya Huon combined to cover the court beautifully.

The shooting combination of Zoë Harland and Lane Poland also connected well, both making some brilliant shots.

After a hiccup in the first quarter, Poland found her usual faultless form and had the crowd roaring with some ‘superstar’ shots.

Amie Jacklin played her usual superb game in Goal Defence destroying her opposition.

Vanessa Kurta, at Goal Keeper and Demi Smith playing in Wing Defence, handled their opposition with no worries, rebounding well and having their hands over everything.

Players’ Player couldn’t be split with Huon and Spinks both receiving the honours while the Coach’s Award went to Jacklin.—True Blue Cattle Dog
