Power, passion and superior tactics
Wednesday July 29, 2009
A deadly ingredient of power, passion and superior tactical play saw the Cobar U/15 Roosters hand the Dubbo hot shots St Johns side a 10 try to two hiding at Apex Oval in Dubbo on Saturday.
The Roosters blockbusting centre combination of David Watson and Macauley Dawson were once again in impeccable form scoring seven of Cobar’s 10 tries between them.
Dawson scored four tries and Watson three.
Wade Potter continually took the ball to the line drawing the defenders to himself only to slip a deft little pass to put his centres and fullback Cameron Dunlevy through a bewildered St John’s defensive line.
Jim Delboux played like the season campaigner he is, slotting the forward pack through hole after hole in the St Johns defence.
He opened up the ruck area with his experienced ball playing ability in heavy traffic and was rewarded with two tries himself for his effort.
The big man, the long striding, Tom Sellick showed what can happen when you combine determination and pace.
He ran onto a copybook inside offload pass by Eathan Dunlevy, sprinted 60 metres, and beat several defenders to touch down near the sticks.
The punishment dealt out in defence was the stuff legends were made of.
Jordan Cranch, Brian Mudugem, Brad Harris, Alec Burton and Slade Neale (to name a few), all had impressive tackle counts.
Clinton Everett and Jordan Beasley were safe out wide and kept the crowd on their toes with some enterprising attack raids down the side lines.
Man of the Match and defence awards went to Sellick, Delboux and Harris respectively.
The half time score was 32-0 with the final score 54-12 Cobar’s way.
This win puts the Cobar 15s on top of the competition table with a five point buffer zone.—Ron Law
