Guys and Gals book a mixed netball grand final berth
Wednesday October 29, 2008

First into the mixed indoor netball grand final was the team of Guys and Gals,
Vanessa Kurta, Todd Fugar, Brendan Rodda, Tia Parisi, Stevi Bishop, Sarah Irvine and Brittany Fugar. They beat the competition’s minor premiers, Space Cadets, in a close
26-21 major semi final last Tuesday.
Guys and Gals booked themselves a grand final berth in the mixed indoor netball competition last week after narrowly winning their major semi final game over the Space Cadets.
Guys and Gals recorded a 26-21 win over the competition’s minor premiers who, up until last week, were looking as favourites to take out this season’s title.
Tuesday’s game started on an even keel with both teams deadly accurate in their shooting and rock-solid in their defence.
Tit-for-tat play continued throughout the match until the final quarter when the Guys and Gals edged away to claim a five points win.
Space Cadets’ Goal Defence Lane Poland was strong all game and was responsible in turning the ball over for her side on numerous occasions.
Guys and Gals’ Tia Parisi was outstanding in goal and was ably assisted by Todd Fugar.
Together they proved to be a winning shooting combination.
Five points was again the margin in the elimination semi final game played between third placed GW and fourth placed JDS.
Both teams entered the match knowing it could be their last for the season but GW looked to have saved their best performance until last and their form on Tuesday night was one of their best games this season.
Goal Attack (and team sponsor) Gerard Francisco was sinking shots from all over the circle and their reserve shooter (and secret weapon) Gail Russell bolstered the team score with nine goals to help GW to a win.
JDS’s loss last week has now put them out
of the competition.
Space Cadets and GW met last night in the final with the winner to play Guys and Gals in the grand final in a fortnight.
There are no games to be played next week due to Melbourne Cup celebrations.
