Cobar Police detain 120 fun seekers

The 12th annual Police Charity Day on Sunday attracted 120 would-be/could-be golfers for a day of fun golf.
All participants enjoyed a great day of golf organised by the local constabulary, from which many local charities benefit.
Men’s golf captain Peter Brien praised the work of the organiser, policeman Joe Palma, who has been in charge of the event for the past 10 years.
“Our success is because of the participation,” Mr Palma said.
“The main focus of the event is to raise money for the recipients and foster community ties with Cobar people.”
The net winner was the team of Chrissy Grammer, Phil Gilligan, Brad Bannister and Louise Bannister with a score of 533/8.
The runners-up were Scott Meadows, Jarrod Marsden, Joel Parisi and Rob Josephson (561/8).
The winners of the scratch event were Al Knight, Dave Knight, Janet Place and Greg Read with 61.
The runners-up were Jeb Bishop, Kevin Walsh, Rick Christie and Scott Mayne (64).
The ladies winners were Pam Sikora, Janine Ryan, Jackie Smith and Sue Goonrey (595/8).
Ten players teed-off on Wednesday to contest a par event in the men’s competition with Matt Egan victorious with a score of +6.
He was chased home by Scott Meadows (+3) and Patrick Bourke (+1).
Nearest the pins were recorded by Egan, Neville Fugar and Tom Fox.
Saturday’s round was a stableford event with 15 players taking to the course.
The winner, with 45 points, was Scott Meadows followed by Peter Brien (45) and Mick Bannister (44).
Nearest the pins were recorded by Brien, Meadows and Tom Fox with Bruce Mitchell claiming two.
This Saturday will be the Tooheys Three Person Ambrose and fundraiser day followed on Sunday by a stableford event.—contributed
