Business end of comp for indoor soccer

Wednesday September 30, 2009

The 2009 Indoor Soccer Competition has reached the business end of the season with the finals kicking off tonight at the Cobar Youth & Fitness Centre.

Redbacks will do battle with Sonics while Peak/CSA take on No Fear Here with the loser being eliminated.

This season’s minor premiers Floorboards, have a bye.

M&C Parisi Floorboards will enter the finals as favourites.

They wrapped up the minor premiership in the second last week of the regular season finishing with 13 wins and two losses.

Floorboards have won their last 11 games.

They have the best attacking record (8.3 goals per game) and defensive record (2.6) in the competition.

Unlike the other teams in the finals, Floorboards play with three males and three females.

This has paid dividends this season with Floorboards scoring 124 goals of which the female players have netted 72 per cent.

Redbacks will be out to defend their title which they won by defeating Floorboards in last year’s grand final.

Redbacks finished this year’s regular season in second position.

They were the third best attacking (5.3gpg) and second best defensive team (2.9). Tonight they take on Sonics.

Sonics finished third after sitting in fourth for most of the season.

What they lack in “soccer knowledge” they make up for in speed, enthusiasm and energy.

They were the fourth best attacking and best defensive team.

Tonight’s match will be fast paced, end to end action. Sonics are yet to beat Redbacks this season, however the gap has been closing.

In their first encounter Redbacks won 13–0, then 6–3 and finally 3–2.

In tonight’s other match Peak/CSA battle it out with No Fear Here.

Peak/CSA have had a reversal in form of late. In the first half of the season, they led the competition, winning six of their first seven games.

However, in the last eight weeks of the competition, they lost six games and drew one, slipping to fourth on the competition table.

The main contributing factor for this has been the absence of their main goal scorer Nagaiya Naidu.

Tipped to take the title at the start of the year, Peak/CSA are still hot favourites if they can field their full strength side.

No Fear Here finished in fifth position. Barring a major upset, the finals campaign for No Fear Here will end tonight.

They allow six goals per game while only scoring 3.4 on average.

They have however defeated Peak/CSA once this year. The loss of Peter Ford stalled any momentum they had.—Becks
