Mark Madden is named our November Young Achiever
November 2009

The Cobar Weekly and Cobar Youth and Fitness Centre’s November Young Achiever Mark Madden (centre) with Graham Harbison and Angela Webb, who nominated him for the award last Friday.
Mark Madden is a young man that
has overcome a number of hurdles to be where he is today and his efforts have earned him recognition as The Cobar Weekly and Cobar Youth & Fitness
Centre’s Young Achiever of the Month for November.
The 18 year old has an intellectual disability and also epilepsy, which makes it difficult
for him to do a number of things independently.
Mark was nominated by Angela Webb, who has worked with Mark in her role as a case manager with the Department of Aging, Disability and Home Care.
“Mark is completing Year 12 over two
years and recently attended his Year 12 graduation,” Ms Webb’s nomination said.
“He really enjoys the outdoors and is
undertaking a traineeship in horticulture with Cobar Shire Council and is mentored by ranger Graham Harbison,” she said.
According to Mr Harbison, Mark is
very keen and enthusiastic about his traineeship.
“He really looks forward to coming to work,” Mr Harbison said.
Since he started his traineeship, Mark’s teachers and his fellow workers have reported a noticeable improvement in Mark’s self confidence saying that he talks more and is more outgoing.
“Mark is very determined and, with support, is able to get 100 per cent out of life,” Ms Webb said.
