Twelve year old all round sportsperson Josie Anderson is The Cobar Weekly and Cobar Youth & Fitness Centre Young Achiever of the Month for October.

Josie received two nominations for the Young Achiever award from teacher Paula Potter at St John’s School and fellow athlete Georgia Baker from Cobar Primary School.

Both believed Josie’s recent success of 7th place in her discus event at the NSW Primary State Athletics Carnival at Homebush make her worthy of the nomination.

Mrs Potter’s nomination said Josie has represented St John’s School and the Wilcannia Forbes Diocese in several sports.

“She recently attended the Polding Combined Catholic Schools Carnival at Newcastle where she gained a silver medal for second place in her age group discus event,” Mrs Potter wrote.

“Josie also placed fourth in the shot put at this carnival, just missing out on a bronze medal.

“Shot put is a skill that Josie has only just begun to compete in, so this was an achievement to place fourth.”

“Josie is a great all round sportsperson who dedicates hours of her time to practice for not only discus but also netball, basketball and dancing,” Georgia wrote in her nomination.

“She is great at them all.”

“Josie’s achievements are a result of her personal fitness, dedication to training and her good sportsmanship,” Mrs Potter said.
