Grace is September Young Achiever

September 2009

September Young Achiever Grace Power
Mary Urquhart nominated Grace Power as the September Young Achiever of the Month.

Young sportswoman, 13 year old Grace Power, is The Cobar Weekly and Cobar Youth & Fitness Centre’s Young Achiever of the Month for September.

Grace is a keen netballer who has played state age representative netball for two years.

She was nominated for the Young Achiever Award by a family friend, Mary Urquhart.

Mrs Urquhart said she was impressed not only by Grace’s achievements, but also her continued commitment to a number of sports.

This year Grace played in the Group 14 Inter Town Competition as a member of the Nyngan team which had a very successful season.

They made it to the grand final of the competition last month against Coonabarabran and won the match 31-20. Grace, playing at Centre, was named Player of the Grand Final.

In order to fulfil her representative commitments, some days Grace had to be up at 5am to travel to her games.

Grace also competes in the Cobar Junior Netball competition, as well as the senior Mixed and Women’s netball competitions at the Cobar Youth & Fitness Centre.

She also plays a number of other sports including junior basketball.

Mr Urquhart said Grace is happy to help out junior basketball Aussie Hoops program
coordinator Nicky Miller with the younger players.

“Grace also assists with the primary school basketball division refereeing their games.”

She is also a committed member of the Cobar Swimming Club and Cobar Little A’s and “thoroughly deserving of this award”.
