There are plenty of young people achieving great things in our community, and the Young Achiever award is a wonderful way to recognise them. It is open to any Cobar residents under the age of 25 years, and anyone can nominate a young achiever.
What sort of achievements are considered?
The list is almost endless—Young Achiever of the Month recognises a youth who has achieved something out of the ordinary. Previous winners have included youth who have:
# Achieved great local sporting results
# Competed in representative sports outside Cobar
# Achieved outstanding academic results
# Shown commitment to help local clubs and organisations
# Shown extraordinary acts of mateship and caring for others
# Overcome adversities to achieve in sporting, academic and employment fields.
Who can nominate a young achiever?
Pretty much anyone—if you have noticed an achievement and feel it deserves recognition, just fill in the nomination form and drop it in to The Cobar Weekly office.
How do I nominate a young achiever?
Forms are available at The Cobar Weekly office, and can also be faxed or emailed to you, or click here for a form.
It is best to provide as many details as possible for consideration when The Cobar Weekly chooses a young achiever each month.
How is the Young Achiever judged?
The Cobar Weekly staff consider each month’s nominations and award the Young Achiever to who they consider is the most worthy of recognition.
What does the Young Achiever win?
The person chosen as the monthly Young Achiever will receive a certificate and medallion.
A story and photo will also appear in The Cobar Weekly detailing the young person’s achievements.
Each year The Cobar Weekly also nominates a number of young people for Australia Day awards, often based on previous winners of the Young Achiever of the Month Award from the previous year.
